Hello all! Welcome to Strange Stories from Odd Folx Season 2! What’s in store for you this time around? Well!
I’ve got some more of my stories for you, of course. But I’ve also got some brand new queer writers, with their queer tales, plus new narrators! I’m excited about this season.
Last season was me tooling around, trying to figure out how things work. I taught myself sound design and everything from scratch, and I had a lot of fun doing it. As I’ve said, I used all my own stuff last time because if I was going to screw it up, at least it would only be my own stories.
I’m confident…well, more confident…that this time I know enough (and have enough kind people that I can ask for help if I need it) to be able to make a proper show of other people’s tales this time around, so that’s what I’m doing!
And ditto the new narrators. Last time was me, my wife Lexi, and wonderful friends Tracy Clifton (third narrator and producer), and America Young (intros and outros and trailers). This time I tookm a couple of steps forward, and gained Ness Rose – an excellent talespinner, ttrpg GM, gamer, and lovely person. They’re reading 4 stories this time. And, making his solo run this episode, I also have Danny Guarantee, ttrpg player, voiceover artist, and awesome guy.
I’m fortunate to be surrounded by people who just want to create with me, and help me find places for queer voices to go. It’s worth noting again for the record that every writer is queer, while not all the narrators are. This is entirely on purpose.
First, the queer writers are the point. We get niched so hard, especially as many of us are multiply marginalised (I’m also disabled and have bipolar, for example), so any person who hears this podcast who would otherwise not have heard our tales, is great! That’s the point! More ears on our stories!
And then, by having voices who aren’t all queer reading the stories, the show opens up to anyone. All are welcome. Everyone here who isn’t queer, is an ally I have absolute trust and faith in. And that’s who the show is for. Anyone who is queer, or is an ally, and who wants to hear more queer stories by queer writers.
So, that’s my spiel! Now for the episode! What’s coming at you this time?

For episode 1 I’ve got a special two-parter, with two of the best, and nicest, stories I’ve ever written – in my opinion, that is, I love these stories, and they don’t always go with the darker side of things that I tend to write in. They’re both bittersweet tales of love – of different kinds.
First, we have Ness Rose in their debut on the show, reading a story of mine called Mothball City. It’s a monologue tale about an imaginary friend. If you’ve ever wondered where they come from and why, well, now you can find out!
And second, Danny Guarantee reads That Special Smile, another monologue tale about love, and the heartbreak of losing someone.
Thanks to America Young for the intro and outro!
